Al Ruscelli's Coffee-Related
(Some Thoughts and Lots of Photos)
(Al Ruscelli -- April 2007)

Below is a Mini Site Map for the coffee-related pages on my website.
Coffee Grinder Page
Lots of photos of the Mazzer Mini coffee grinder, inside and out (done with standard camera lenses, macro lenses, and fisheye lenses for a full range of perspectives). Partial disassembly of the grinder is encompassed in these photos for a breakdown of various mechanisms and components.
Mini Burrs Page
A very close-up look at the burrs of a Mazzer Mini. Old burrs, new burrs, cleaned burrs, dirty burrs, etc.
KBT-741 Initial "Carafe Concerns" Page
I put this page together after first receiving my KBT-741. I at first suspected I had received the wrong coffeemaker since what I received only partly matched what I thought I would be receiving based on photos of the coffeemaker on the site where I made the purchase. The difference in the carafe was substantial enough that I wasn't sure I had received the right coffeemaker. I didn't know at the time that Technivorm had changed the carafe to a "new style" carafe. Vendor advertising was sadly lagging behind sales of the real product, and the old product was still being advertised on all the sites where I considered buying (and where I ended up buying).
Lots of photos of the KBT-741. Want a good overall look at the KBT-741? Take a look here.
Technivorm KBT-741 Riser Project
This is a mini-project dedicated to raising the height of the Technivorm KBT-741 coffeemaker so that it will allow the new-style thermal carafe, with lid attached, to slip into place in its usual position under the filter holder. A design oddity (whether intentional or not on the part of the manufacturer) makes it impossible for the new-style carafe to fit into place under the coffeemaker with the lid attached. I find this an annoyance and have come up with my own workaround to the problem.
Filter Holder & Spray Head Action
This page shows a series of photos of the spray head saturating coffee in the filter holder and how the brew process looks when unaided by the "fill and stir" technique that is used to bring out more flavor from the coffee. Exciting stuff, eh?
Technivorm KBT-741 and Newco OCS-8 Comparison
This page contains an extended set of photos and text comparing these two coffeemakers -- two of the only Specialty Coffee Association of American (SCAA) approved coffeemakers available in the US (as far as I know).
A different way of looking at coffee. Very close up.
A very close up look at coffee beans.
